(NC) – By the year 2031, approximately 20 per cent of Canada’s population – one in five – will be seniors. Baby boomers are growing older and reaching the age of retirement. As they age, seniors want to live as independently as possible. At the same time, their adult children want to ensure their parents can be easily reached if there are any health or personal issues.
Today, while the majority of Canadians – 85 per cent – under the age of 55 carry a cell phone to stay connected anytime, anywhere to family and friends, that number drops nearly 10 per cent for those over the age of 55, according to a recent study conducted by Angus Reid.
“Not surprisingly, for more mature Canadians over the age of 65, mobile usage drops even lower, historically due to lack of options designed to address the needs of the aging population who saw cell phones as quite complicated and expensive,” says Raj Doshi, vice president of mobile product management at Rogers Communications. “Seniors want easy to use devices and affordable plans – now they have an option.
“The Doro PhoneEasy is the first device of its kind in Canada designed for seniors,” Doshi explained. “The new phone is optimized with a number of senior-friendly features. From the large buttons for easier dialing and texting to an emergency function that automatically calls and sends an SMS alarm to preset numbers at the push of a single button. The award-winning phone is exactly the simple mobile phone that many people want and need.”
Rogers has paired the PhoneEasy mobile phone with an affordable rate plan service called the Essential Connect Package, all built to provide cost-certain connectivity and easy usage to keep Canadian seniors connected when they need to be.
“Canadians have different needs when it comes to staying connected,” Doshi continued. “For mature Canadians on a fixed income, it is important to have peace of mind and solutions that can keep you connected reliably to friends and family.”
