I have struggled with the direction of TechStomp over the last while, technology and gadgets as an industry changes so rapidly that it is very difficult to follow, especially with the limited amount of time that I have to spend. Still wanting to stay within the technology space I have decided to focus on a specific topic, Linux and OpenSource.
Linux as a topic is something that I have been interested in for a long time. I have tried using Linux on older systems for a number of years and just never thought it was ready for prime time. There were always little frustrating issues that would prevent the average person from truly thriving on it. I no longer believe this to be the case, Linux is ready for everyone.
I am writing this article, on a computer running Ubuntu, I started the conversion of one PC from Windows Vista to Ubuntu Linux in preparation for the new direction of TechStomp. Over the last few weeks I have been transitioning to my applications to the Ubuntu system and am now running a number of Linux applications exclusively and find myself going back to my Windows PC less and less.
Starting sometime this
summer Fall I will introduce a new design to the TechStomp site and will start posting articles on making the transition to Linux. I hope to provide in-depth reviews of applications that I test as I try to replace the ones I use on Windows. As a professional web designer and project manager, I will try to show how you can use these applications, not just for surfing the web, but to really run your business and get things done.
