(NC) – Kids and teens spend an increasing amount of time online these days. The big lure is social networking of course, but online shopping also appears to be catching on.
With 76 per cent of online Canadians saying they have made purchases over the Internet, Industry Canada’s Office of Consumer Affairs is reminding parents to talk to their children about shopping online.
For example, with the convenience of online shopping, teens may be tempted to make spur of the moment purchasing decisions online. They may also provide too much personal information without realizing the consequences
Encourage your kids to be aware of the risks and show them how to protect themselves when buying online. The same rules that apply to safe surfing in general apply to shopping as well. Be proactive and be safe.
